Smith County Rescue Squad Alert

June 21, 2021 7:39 AM | Anonymous

When we post about kayaking incidents, the first assumption by many is it is kayaking rental company customers. That is not normally the case. Last year we did 23 calls on the Caney Fork, only 3 of those were rental company related. The party of 13 yesterday was assumed to be rental customers, however they were not. All had lifejackets. It was what appeared to be family and friends, some in a small boat fishing as they went. Unfortunately they had an issue, lost there fishing boat, but fortunately no one was hurt.

Our job is to get whomever is in trouble regardless of private or rental company customers and that is not our primary concern when called. However the blanket assumption by some that it is always rental company customers is not accurate.

Thank you and do remember to wear you lifejackets and never be embarrassed to call 911 for any reason if your having an issue on the water.
